Elements and Performance Criteria
- Operate wool carbonising machines and associated equipment
- All necessary settings and preparation for wool scouring machine and equipment operation are identified and assessed in accordance with specifications and workplace standard procedures
- Work area around carbonising machines or plant and associated equipment is cleaned and maintained to meet workplace and OHS practices
- Carbonising machines or plant is started
- Bowls are filled with water and additives
- Carbonising machines or plant is stopped or shut down in accordance with all safety and workplace standard operating procedures
- Carry out operator maintenance
- Minor running problems are identified, corrected by the operator where appropriate, and reported in accordance with workplace and equipment manufacturer procedures
- Major machine or plant or product faults are reported
- Minor maintenance and cleaning are performed in accordance with manufacturer specifications and workplace procedures
- Control process variables
- Chemicals are prepared, mixed and changed in accordance with manufacturer specifications, workplace and safety procedures
- Water levels and temperatures are regularly monitored and adjusted where necessary to ensure correct processing
- All flow rates are monitored and adjusted where necessary in accordance with blend specification and workplace standard procedures
- Visual inspection of machine is routinely conducted to ensure efficient operation
- Monitor product quality
- Quality requirements for the wool are correctly identified and applied at all stages of the process
- Wool flow is monitored to meet workplace standard operating procedures
- Wool quality is visually checked to ensure standard is maintained
- Any deviations from normal are recognised, isolated and reported
- Environmental requirements and procedures concerned with waste, pollution and recycling of materials are correctly applied at all stages of the process
- Communicate production information
- Records and other documentation are clearly and accurately completed
- Information from other operators, shifts and supervisory personnel regarding production status and problems is accurately interpreted by the operator
- Information regarding production status and problems is accurately communicated to other operators, shifts and supervisory personnel
